How to install CVumi on Windows and macOS (no certificate warnings)

CVumi runs on your own computer, so you download it and install it yourself. The first time you open it, Windows or macOS may show a one-time security warning. This is expected. It does not mean a virus was found. It means the app is new and not yet code-signed, so your system asks you to confirm once. You go through it a single time per computer, not on every launch.

This guide explains why the warning appears, then gives you the exact steps for Windows and for macOS. If you only want the steps, jump to Windows or macOS below.

Why CVumi shows a warning the first time

Windows and macOS both check downloaded apps before the first launch. On Windows the check is Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. On macOS it is Gatekeeper. Both ask the same two questions: does the app come from a recognised, paid developer identity, and has it been downloaded often enough to have built a reputation. A brand-new app from an independent maker answers "not yet" to both, so the system pauses and hands the decision to you.

CVumi is an independent tool, and code signing is a recurring yearly cost that we are working through. Until it is fully in place, your operating system does not recognise the publisher yet, so it shows the warning. Here is the part most download pages skip: the warning is about reputation, not the result of a scan. It does not mean malware was found in the file.

One habit keeps you safe: only download CVumi from cvumi.com. CVumi is lower risk than a typical unknown download, because it runs entirely on your machine, it uses your own AI provider key rather than an account we control, and the file from our site is the whole product. There is no separate server holding your CV.

Install CVumi on Windows

The step most people miss is that the button to continue is hidden behind a small link. Here is the full path.

1. Download the CVumi installer from cvumi.com.
2. Run the installer you just downloaded.
3. If SmartScreen does not recognise it yet, a blue window appears titled "Windows protected your PC". At first it may show only a "Don't run" button.
4. Click the "More info" link inside that window. A new line appears with the app name and the publisher.
5. Click "Run anyway".
6. If Windows asks for permission to make changes to your device, click "Yes", then follow the installer to the end.

That is it. The next time you open CVumi, there is no warning.

If your browser holds the file back with its own download check, open your downloads list, find the CVumi installer, and choose "Keep". Then run it and follow the steps above.

Install CVumi on macOS

On macOS the first launch is blocked with a message that the app "cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified". You confirm once, and after that CVumi opens normally. The route below is the reliable one, and it works on every recent version of macOS.

1. Download the CVumi .dmg from cvumi.com.
2. Open the .dmg, then drag the CVumi icon into your Applications folder.
3. Open CVumi once by double-clicking it. macOS shows the "developer cannot be verified" message. Close it for now, and do not click "Move to Trash".
4. Open the Apple menu, choose "System Settings", then click "Privacy & Security" in the sidebar.
5. Scroll down to the line that says CVumi was blocked. Click "Open Anyway".
6. A confirmation dialog appears. Click "Open Anyway" again, then enter your login password or use Touch ID.

CVumi opens, and from now on you can open it by double-clicking, the same as any other app.

The "Open Anyway" line appears only after you have tried to open CVumi at least once, and it stays available for about an hour. If you do not see it, double-click CVumi again to bring back the first message, then go straight back to Privacy & Security.

Alternative on older macOS

On older macOS versions there is a quicker route. Apple removed this shortcut on macOS 15 Sequoia and later, so if it does nothing, use the System Settings steps above.

1. Open your Applications folder and find CVumi.
2. Right-click, or Control-click, the CVumi icon, then choose "Open".
3. In the dialog that appears, click "Open" again to confirm.

After the first open

Once you have confirmed the one-time warning, CVumi behaves like any installed app. There is no warning on later launches, on either system.

The first time it opens, CVumi asks you to activate. You have two choices:

• Enter your product key and your AI provider key to activate straight away. The product key unlocks the app after your one-time purchase. The AI key connects your own AI provider, so generation runs through your account, not ours.
• Or click "Skip" and add them later. You can enter both at any time from Settings inside the app.

Adding the keys later is fine, so if you do not have them to hand, skip for now and come back to it when you do.
